FAQ

What's New:

Download the most recent Tout mobile app for iPhone and Android.

General Questions:

  • Q: Why do Touts default to 15 seconds?

    • A: 15 seconds is the default time limit for those using the free version of the Tout application. Much like the information efficiency of Twitter's 140 characters, Tout has used 15 seconds since since our launch to enforce brevity of visual information. If you'd like more time to tell your story or show your perspective, upgrade to Tout Pro.
Have you been upgraded to Tout Pro but still have 15 seconds? See next question:
  • Q: I'm a Premium Tout customer, why are my Tout's still 15 seconds?

    • A: If you have been upgraded to a Tout Pro account and the time limit in your Tout camera is still 15 seconds, try these solutions:
    • 1) Force Quit the Tout mobile app: See Tout Tips here. Reopen the mobile app and check if the new recording time has been reflected.
    • 2) Accept your organization's invite email from your desktop browser. If you have never had a Tout account, see invite video here. If you are an existing Tout user, see invite video here. Repeat "Force Quit" mobile app (solution 1, above).
    • 3) Double check that the current account you are logged into is the one that has been upgraded by your organization's admin. First, tap "Profile" then note the username (following the "@" symbol). Not the username that should be upgraded? Tap gear icon (Settings) in the top left of your profile page >> Tap “Logout” >> Login to the app with the credentials associated with your premium account. The correct credentials should be the ones associated with the invite email that should have been sent by your organizations admin (see solution 2, above).
  • Q: How do I sign up for a Tout account?

    • A: Via Desktop: From Tout.com, click “Sign Up” (upper right corner). We recommend you register with your email address and create a password (especially if you are a member of a "Pro" organization). You can also sign up with your Twitter account, or lastly, Facebook.
    • Via Mobile: Create an account through the Tout mobile app, available for iOS or Android.
    • NOTE: We recommend your Tout username match my Twitter, here's why. If you are a Tout Pro user, you may have received an email invitation from your organization's admin. If you have never had a Tout account, see invite video here. If you are an existing Tout user, see invite video here.
  • Q: Why should I use the same username on Tout and Twitter?

    • A: See the Tout Tips here. We recommend you use the same username for Twitter and Tout, so that when someone @mentions you in a Tout and shares that Tout to Twitter, the @mention will link to your Twitter account. It also makes it easier for your friends on Twitter to find you on Tout.
  • Q: How do I change Settings? (i.e. avatar, username, password, sharing)?

    • A: See mobile "Settings" Tout Tips here. On Tout.com after you login/sign-up, roll-over your avatar (top right) >> "Settings"
  • Q: Where do I send questions and feedback?

    • A:
    • 1) Mention @ToutHelp in the title of your Tout or Tweet.
    • 2) Click the “Feedback” tab (on the right side) of any page on the website
    • 3) For Premium users, email Premium_Help@Tout.com
    • If those options don't work, try telepathy.
  • Q: What will happen if I abuse hashtags, or "hashtag spam"

    • A: Hashtags are a great way for users to organize their content, or add it to a stream - when you abuse hashtags you ruin them for everyone else! As a general rule, only use hashtags that relate to the content or message in your video. If we feel you are abusing hashtags we may:
    • 1) Delete the hashtags from your title field
    • 2) Blacklist you from using a particular hashtag
    • 3) Block you from using hashtags at all
    • 4) Reject your content
    • Moral of the story, don't spam :)
    • See the Tout Tip here
  • Q: I came across something lewd/indecent on Tout, what do I do?

    • A: If you come across content on Tout that you feel is lewd or indecent please:
    • 1) Flag the offensive Tout
    • 2) Send the URL of the offensive Tout to Help@Tout.com or message it to @ToutHelp on Twitter. See the Tout Tip here
  • Q: Is Tout available for Blackberry?

    • A: We are not developing a Blackberry-compatible app at this time. However, Blackberry users can still Tout via webcam on Tout.com --- simply sign up and click “+New Tout” to record a Tout with your webcam or upload a video from your computer.
  • Q: What is a hashtag?

    • A: A hashtag is a “#” symbol put in front of a word/idea/phrase to organize where it’s displayed. It’s like creating a channel or stream based on that concept. For example, if you were to add moments from a Giants game, you could tag them #SF #Giants #Baseball. Those moments would then play in all 3 of those hashtag streams/channels. For more info, see wikipedia here

    • To set Touts to private by default: Log into the website and click “Settings” from the drop down menu.
From settings, click “Privacy” tab and change "By Default, New Touts Are:" to private. Click save.

    • A: We are working on this functionality, but until then, please email help@tout.com with your username and associated email address. Make sure to delete all content from the account you'd like deleted before sending your delete account request (scroll down to find how to delete Touts if you are having difficulty).
