The North Adams Transcript remains a fiercely independent publication dedicated to serving its loyal and valuable customers. Through our website and Facebook, we also serve many former residents, relatives, and vacationers wanting to keep up with their communities and old friends. Company Overview The North Adams Transcript has been the voice of Northern Berkshires for 167 years, starting out as a weekly newspaper in 1843 and expanding to a daily in 1895. The Transcript became known for its journalistic excellence and strong editorial stances under the leadership of the Hardman family from 1898 to 1977. That tradition continues today. In 1995, Medi aNews Group, owner of the Denver Post and more than 60 daily newspapers nationwide, took ownership of the Transcript. The newspaper became sister to its former competitors, the Berkshire Eagle and the Benningnton Banner as part of the MediaNews fold of New England Newspapers Inc. (NENI) In 2011, Media News Group became part of Digital First Media (DFM) .
